Generating very well written very unique useful content on your website and on other websites. Do podcasts. YouTube videos. That aside, post on blogs and comment on other places. Focus on medium tail instead of difficult long tail for example. Google locals if need be. Social media but learn how to incorporate those well if you don't know. Pr posts, building backlinks and generating high written content on other sites. On page seo which is ez. Remove or update web pages doing poorly for potential boost. The usually good Brian Dean transparency style. Then toss in the Grey market world which everyone usually does. Be smart on how you do that. Remove negative links. Consider pbn and serp networks but don't always rely on them and sometimes are they harmful. The really private ones that you pay large money for are usually helpful considerations. Working with otherd and your competition to share work and links... It's weird but it works for both of you. Basically a modified Brian Dean style is more optimal lately. But Brian is not entirely white as seem by search engine checking him out. It's not all white hat. Mostly white small Grey. And don't forget Pr stuff and reports and shit. Some people also dabble in testing out uploading pdfs of content to course hero and other websites for added stuff but I have no clue in that aspect not sure if it's reliable yet haven't tested. There are others but this should serve you solidly. And by all means your website better be good simple and look nice and it better be zippy because Cmon get your shit together. Hope this helps. It's not everything but a good chunk of it. Cheers.

People saying post great content are dreamers.especially for new sites. Ive made plenty of projects where the content is far superior to what is being offered and Im stuck on page 10.This only works for established sites. For new sites breaking out you have to play dirty and get those initial links. I have also built horrible sites, bought backlinks and ranked on page 1 for keywords with serious traffic. This to me is a huge flaw in Googles algorithm that links are still king dispite the amount of abuse webmasters do in building backlinks. They need to seriously consider making user engagement, user satisfaction the main focus. tomsguide.com is a perfect example of this. Look at their growth in the past 5-10years, stagnant the first couple of years then a spike. Drill down the backlinks they gained during the period just before the growth and you have all sorts of blogs saying bullshit like, I decide to buy my ahref=10 best pc hardware devices from tomsguide. Now one of the biggest sites on the web. TLDR: building great content for noobs is a waste of time, buy links instead, but do I think properly.

Aren't GSA links black hat?

In a nutshell, pay close attention to SERPs in your niche and you will begin to see patterns. Only after that you can devise your own strategy. The niche that I've been observing for past 10 years has mixed ranking criteria. On one hand, 2 of the most popular sites that rank for hundreds of variations have thousands of pages and back-links in millions. But for same variations new sites with zero authority with GSA links, rank for few months and then get swiped by new ones. And then there are the sites that do the mixed strategy of content plus link building. Not to forget the black-hats, they hack a third-party site and stuff their pages there and out rank any site for any keyword. They do it consistently with scrapped content.

That is a bad idea. He's a great marketer, not such a great SEO though. He gives out advice that is good if you have a huge brand and are already a multi-million dollar company. For the rest of business owners, most of his advice is a waste of their time.

Ah, the old hope and pray method. If you create awesome content, people will magically link to you. Roughly 99.9% of the time this will fail. I fully expect all the sheep that follow these "create great content and Google will love you" gurus will downvote the hell out of this comment. Truth hurts.

Does that ever work? I get a dozen emails a week of this type and have never done so. Why would I link to their garbage "resources". I've talked with numerous other marketers and none have ever agreed to link to these offerings. Seems like a TON of work for almost zero return.

This. I the time it takes to build one traditional link, you can create awesome content that results in hundreds of backlinks. It's a much better use of your time than traditional link building efforts.

Creating awesome content alone doesn't work. Outreaching to bloggers and other business owners with your resource page helps. Convince them by explaining that linking out to relevant content is an up for them as well.

Probably the same that it's been for years: create awesome content on your own site and get your name out by contributing (content, comments) to other sites and communities. Once people know your site is worth visiting, the external mentions should start flowing naturally.
