We (Ahrefs) are putting together a list of the best free SEO tools; please tell us your favorites!

I'm putting together a list of the best free SEO tools that will be published on the Ahrefs blog. I have a few favorites of my own, but I also wanted to curate some tool ideas from BigSEO community.

This probably ain't going to be another "875468405 free SEO tools" post; we just want to list tools that are actually useful rather than every obscure tool in existence.

Bonus points if you can tell us how you use them in your day to day work.

PS. We'll be listing a few freemium tools, too, so feel free to mention those kinds of tools if you know of anything particularly useful.

I like an Ultimate Keyword Hunter - it's free LSI research tool. You need to download and install it on your computer. Keyword Hunter analyzes keywords based on Google's top sites content and identifies themed keywords and phrases to be used in your article.

My title / meta description pixel width checking tool, in my very biased opinion, is best of that category of tools: https://searchwilderness.com/tools/pixel-length/

Take a look at https://www.bannerview.com/seo-recommendations/ Many of our customers use it to highly optimize their pages for specific, targeted keywords. It doesn't suggest keywords, it helps you optimize for the keywords already selected.

something pretty simple and small, but i like to use seomofo.com/snippet-optimizer.html for quick google rendering previews of title tags and meta descriptions in the SERPs.

The free version of kwfinder is pretty good if you're only doing a bit of research here and there.

The reality is for /BigSEO most of solution are build in house. Those can provide the scale necessary to track million of keywords and the relative categorisations must have APIs handling the scale. GetStat.com is by far one of those tools allowing /BigSEO to handle large scale tracking and building intelligence on top of data (share of real estate of the page, position, multiple categorization for agile testing, category movements, Google Products etc.). Master of all of the storage of HTML of the SERP, which allows data science and tracking overtime. Other tools like Searchmetrics, SEMrush, Ahref are good for simple snapshots rather than deep dive grasping the complexity /BigSEO handle. Screaming frog as few limitation as well, we tend to use internally for training purposes before moving to Splunk, far more comprehensive grated you can RegEX fluently. Again at the risk of being repetitive but /BigSEO are likely to have 90% of tools built in house. A few look at Pinterest Blogs and Etsy blog shed some lights to where and why most of solutions are built internally.

KWFinder SERPChecker I love the design and user-friendliness of the tools. Both allow free plan with all the features. The only restriction is a number of requests.

https://keywordtool.io/ is great for finding long-tail keywords and content topics. They have a paid/premium version, but the free one works fine for me.

lordjoshington 2 years ago

nice suggestions - thanks! IMHO, PR Hunters is the best thing since HARO!

lordjoshington 2 years ago

note to self: lull "Russ Jones from Moz" into a false sense of security by publishing a low-quality "decoy" version of our post on the Ahrefs blog one day before he publishes his list on the Moz blog, then subsequently update our post with the better version :)

Hey Hey - Handmade Gsheet Tools included ? I got some gems in my drive ;)

So here are some contributions... prhunters.com --- basically like HARO but uses twitter to find requests. It is an easy set-it-and-forget-it tool for PR opportunities keywordmixer.com --- take your various keywords and join them together in a number of different ways to try and find better alternatives publicwww.com --- find source-code based footprints
